1-Eliminate All Distractions

Eliminate All Distractions

Bad news. If you want to increase productivity at work, you should say goodbye to your mobile phone for a while. In fact, this method is not just about mobile phones. It is about all the distractions that you have.

So ditching all distractions to increase your productivity includes email notifications, multiple web browsers, that family picture on your desk, or your desk near a window with a nice view. I can keep adding on other things but no need for them.

What I am trying to explain here is that you should find the things that distract you and find a way to get rid of it.

2-Take Breaks

Take Breaks

If you imagine a world that you will work continuously on high-level productivity, you are sorely mistaken. Because no one on earth can work at a task without breaks and stay at a constant level of performance.

Instead, you should take care of yourself and have scheduled breaks to stay at optimum productivity. I am not the one who says that. That is a scientifically proven method to boost productivity and work smarter at your workplace.

According to researchers, taking regular breaks during long tasks helps you to maintain a high level of performance every time you come back from your break.

3-Boost Your Mood

Boost Your Mood

Who wants to work when they are in a bad mood? Well, at least not me. Because we all know that there is a direct correlation between your mood and your productivity. So, you have to boost your mood in a good way to increase your productivity.

Make yourself calm and collected. I don’t know if it sounds to you easy as pie but actually, it requires a scheduled mind. You have to do everything that will boost your mood from the start of the morning.

4-Take The Advantage Of Your Peak Times

Take The Advantage Of Your Peak Times

It was about two years ago when I wondered about my sharpest time during the day. I realized that I am more productive starting from 10 am until noon, and 3 pm till 5 pm after lunch. And I have started to plan my daily schedule according to that window.

I suggest you do the same. Because even if you don’t know yet, most of us have a daily time frame where we are at our most efficient times. So, identify your most productive times and plan your day accordingly.

A hint: Take your toughest tasks to the time that you can work smarter and put others to the less efficient periods.

5-The Two-Minute Rule

The Two-Minute Rule

This smart rule comes from the Entrepreneur Steve Olenski. According to Olenski, you can make most out of your small tasks easily by following the two-minute rule. It relies on a simple and easy tactic.

First, check your to-do list. If you see any task that can be done in two minutes according to your assumption, do it immediately. By doing this you will spend less time on that task than having to get back to it later.

It is a good method to try. If you want to increase your productivity during the day on other important tasks, give it a chance.

6-Finish Your Most Important Tasks In The Morning

Finish Your Most Important Tasks In The Morning

This method will work especially for the ones who are more productive early in the morning. Instead of checking your emails in the morning, Finish your most important tasks. Because probably you will have more energy in the morning.

So, plan your day accordingly. For example, if you need to have an important meeting with your coworker, set it as the first thing to do in the morning. You will see that the outcomes that you took from that meeting will be great.

Trust me, if you want to boost your productivity, you certainly don’t want to waste your most precious time on checking mails.

7-Multitasking Is Not Working

Multitasking Is Not Working

Let me give you a secret. Multitasking is not working. Even if you think that the ability to multitask is an important skill for increasing productivity. At least studies show that it is not. In fact, multitasking causes time loss.

So, stop trying to work on several tasks at a time. Instead, commit yourself to a single gig before moving onto another one. This habit will increase your feelings of success and productivity. Finishing a task will give you a sense of relief and courage to start the next one.

Honestly, I was trying to be a multitasking nerd as well. But I gave a chance to the opposite, and that method changed my way of doing work.

8-Nobody Is Perfect

Nobody Is Perfect

Understanding the idea that there is no perfection is one of the essentials to increase productivity. However, it is so easy to fall into the trap of the illusion of perfection. Because somehow our subconscious brain is willing to run after the idea of perfection.

Push yourself to break this habit. Don’t waste your time on the same task to make it perfect. Finish it by doing your best and move on. Don’t forget, if you think that you need to come back and work more on it to make it better, then absolutely you can. But only after you finish other things/tasks.

9-Eliminate or Delegate Unnecessary Tasks

Eliminate or Delegate Unnecessary Tasks

It is important to eliminate unnecessary tasks while you are trying to boost productivity at work. You have to try to get out of them by eliminating or delegating them. Follow these two steps that I shared below to make this happen.

  1. Determine the unnecessary tasks that cause you to waste your time. Postpone them to another time, or find an alternative, efficient way to work on them.
  2. Find unnecessary tasks for you so that someone else can work on them. Delegate those tasks to another coworker.

10-Give It A Start

Give It A Start

Last but not least, give it a start. Well, you know what they say. The beginning is half done. They have a point about that. Giving a start to your gigs is usually the hardest part under all of that stress, pressure, and intense atmosphere.

However, if you want to boost productivity at work, you have to give it a start. Keep in mind that there is no perfect time to start. The only thing that you have to do is get going. After that, you will be surprised how things will start to get into rhythm.
