Every time we begin working on something important to us we promise ourselves to not give up, to keep going. In the beginning, we are so motivated, energized, and inspired. But soon we lose our excitement and become jaded by the number of responsibilities we placed upon ourselves. And suddenly we feel we want to quit!

This can justify many of the new year’s resolutions that never saw the light. It is always the same scenario, soon after we kick off to pursue one goal, things start to seem overwhelming and frustrating. And normally, when we face problems, we feel stuck and we want to quit.

When you want to quit remember that giving up was not an option. Is it an option now? The answer is no, indeed. But the facts are saying different things. Facts are saying it is better if you quit now. So what to do?

Don’t Quit!

Here is what to do. You have to move according to the situation. You should accept some facts, and change your strategy upon those facts. To be honest, it is not an easy thing to do. You will have to make some hard decisions.

However, it is way better to change your strategy than giving up. Even if it means that you will reach your target in delay.

Although I said it is not an easy thing to do, fortunately, there are some methods to make this process easier, at least in your brain. Today, I’ll share those methods with you. Here are 9 ways to keep yourself going when you are almost ready to quit.

  1. Remember Why You Wanted To Achieve It
  2. Define Your Mindset
  3. Think About Your Accomplishments
  4. Setbacks Are Necessary And Temporary
  5. Look Back And See How Far You Have Come
  6. Have A Back-up Plan
  7. Forgive Yourself
  8. Do Things The Way You Know
  9. Make Positive Thinking A Habit

1-Remember Why You Wanted To Achieve It

wanted to achieve it

If giving up is not an option for you, If you can’t bear the idea of living a life of mediocrity, and if you are willing to become a prized fighter who can overcome all odds to keep pushing even when it gets tougher, this is the first step you should take when you feel like you will simply stop.

Remember why you wanted to achieve it. Remind yourself what was the switch in the mind that led you to give a start. What was the driving force? Was it your family? Was it your financial situation? Was it your hunger for success?

Whatever it is, you have to remind yourself when you want to stop in the middle of the journey. Because this what will drive you same as the beginning. That will be the reason why you refuse to give up.

2-Define Your Mindset

your mindset

Convincing yourself that you will find a way through achieving your goal is one of the best solutions to refuse giving up until you get it. What you need to do in order to convince yourself about that is to define a mindset about it.

Creating a list before you start your journey is a good method to keep you updated about your mindset when you are stuck. You can include your ethics in this list. Here is an example of what kind of list I have.

  • I will persist when things get harder.
  • I won’t let obstacles stop me.
  • I’ll learn from my mistakes.
  • There is no problem without a solution.
  • It is okay to change my way or create a new one to reach my goal.
  • I won’t let the past stop me now.
  • I won’t let the future scare me now.

3-Think About Your Accomplishments

think about your accomplishments

Great things come to you when you are feeling good. That is a steady rule of the universe. Think about it. Do you remember any time that you are happy when you are about to give up? Personally, I don’t. Plus, I don’t know anyone around me that celebrates giving up on their goals.

So, what to do other than celebrating giving up at those moments? I suggest you give a chance to celebrate your past accomplishments. It doesn’t have to be a lion’s share. You can celebrate small ones as well. There is nothing wrong with it.

So, when you feel like you want to stop working on your goals, remind yourself how you accomplished before. That will make you feel in peace. And as I said, when you are feeling good, great things will come.

4-Setbacks Are Necessary And Temporary

setbacks are necessary

There are setbacks more than success on this road. Because, the target is one thing that you want to reach. Road is consist of dozens of steps towards it. At this point, I want to remind you of 3 ethics from my mindset.

First, I will learn from my mistakes.

Second, I won’t let the past stop me now.

Third, I won’t let obstacles stop me.

So, setbacks are necessary and temporary. Neither your past failures nor future obstacles is a reason to make you give up on your goals. You have to learn from your mistakes to improve your process. And you have to move more decisive to your goal by knowing from the heart that you will beat all the obstacles on the road.

5-Look Back And See How Far You Have Come

how far you have come

This is a long and backbreaking journey. And until now, you faced obstacles more than you can bear. Because of this, it is super normal to fall into the trap of pessimism. The only way to avoid this trap is to make lemonade when life gives you lemons.

Looking back and seeing how far you have come, is one of the most delicious lemonades that you can drink on this journey. Because when you look back, you will see every single effort that you put. You will see every single challenge that you manage to overcome.

This will give you enough courage to move forward. Use this fire to brighten your path.

6-Have A Back-up Plan

Having a backup plan helps you to take action in confusing situations when it seems like you are not able to move on. Put in your head that plan at the beginning point. That will save you from planning everything again. At this point, I want to remind you of another ethic from my list.

“It is okay to change your way or create a new one to reach my goal.”

So, always have a backup plan in case things don’t go the way you want. This will give you another option rather than giving up. Change your way when you need to change. It is okay. The end justifies the means.

7-Forgive Yourself

forgive yourself

Everyone makes mistakes. I bet you have a friend who made a lot of mistakes but each time you forgive your friend by being empathetic. But when it comes to ourselves, we can be extremely harsh on ourselves.

Let me tell you something. This is not the best way to prevent yourself from giving up. Do you remember what I said? Everyone makes mistakes. And that “everyone” includes you as well. So, there is no reason to be harsh on yourself.

Instead, you should be at peace with yourself if you want to move on to your target. This is how you will help yourself. You already have a lot of pressure on you, and it is coming from outside, why put more?

8-Do Things The Way You Know

the way you know

Until now, I wrote about things that you need when you are about to give up in the middle of the road. This one is something you need to do at the beginning to prevent that. Do things the way you know and plan everything according to this method.

I am not trying to say, ignore learning from others. What I say is evaluate things that you learned from others like how it suits you. I mean take actions according to your comfort.

In case you don’t do that, you will want to quit at any moment that you don’t feel comfortable. Short story long, being selfish is a must when it comes to reaching your goals.

9-Make Positive Thinking A Habit

positive thinking

I know it is hard to stay positive when you face a huge problem. It is a must though. Because, if you keep seeing the glass half empty, you will never see the full part of it. That will make things harder, and eventually, you will give up.

Instead, train yourself to stay positive at any moment. Be optimistic. Always find the silver line. Push yourself to change your perspective. Don’t allow negativity to oblige your thoughts. Make positive thinking a habit. And trust me, this is the kind of consumption you need.

Because this is how you find the power to move on.

This was a list of steps to keep going when you want to quit. These are what hard workers actually do. There are plenty of methods that you can use when it comes to avoiding giving up. If you have tried one of them before, just share with us your experiences to support others in this adventure!
