1-Move With Little Steps

If you want to avoid procrastinating, first, you should make your work manageable. Because, when we find the work too overwhelming for us, we start delaying tasks subconsciously.

So, how to make work easy to deal with?

There is a simple method. You should break your task down into little parts and then focus on one part at a time. By following this structure, you will have two significant advantages against procrastinating.

  1. You will see what you have to do clearly.
  2. It will be easy to focus on.

There is one thing you need to be careful about. You must continue to break your task down until you see you have these two advantages. Then you can start to work.

2-Create A Timeline and Put Deadlines

After you break down your project into small parts, it is time to take your second step through to avoid procrastination.

You should create a timeline that includes deadlines for each one of your tasks. By doing this, you will stop pushing everything back until it’s too late. Because you will know that if you don’t finish each task by a certain date you will put your project in danger.

For example, personally, I have monthly, weekly and daily timelines designed to reach monthly, weekly, and daily goals. To be able to catch my targets, I broke them down into small pieces. That makes follow up easy for me, and I feel success every day.

As a side note, you can use technology to manage your tasks. There are a bunch of planning apps that you can download your phone and stop procrastination right away!

3-Design Your Workspace

Believe me or not. You can’t do any work if you don’t design your workspace according to your comfort. You will see a positive impact on your productivity when you have an environment designed by you.

So, give it a try. Start from your work desk and change your workspace. Make them want you to work instead of run away. For example, if you need to invest in a new table, just do it. Don’t think about the money that you will pay. Don’t forget, you are investing in yourself, and this is one of the most important investments that you are doing.

On a side note, you may have to do this change more than once. Because we are changing, and our desires change accordingly. So, the things that were making us want to work before may lose their effect. Don’t be lazy about changing your workspace again.

4-Change Your Environment

If you are hanging out with people who have the habit of procrastinating like you, I am sorry but you should change your environment. You should hang out with people who are go-getters and hard workers.

Of course, there is an idea behind this. If you start to spend time with these kinds of people, soon you will see that they are inspiring you to take action. Because subconsciously we tend to take the people around us as an example, or as a role model.

So, if you fill your circle with studious people soon you will be like them. On the contrary, if you fill your environment with procrastinators, you know the result.

5-Take Your Break

Sometimes, we need to distract ourselves from our tasks to prevent feeling overwhelmed. Because feeling overwhelmed is one of the biggest reasons to start delaying your tasks. Anyhow, it is easy to overwork yourself when loaded with full of to-do’s. And finally, you will dive in a mood not to do anything.

It is always better to not work continuously. So, it seems like you must apply a procedure for your breaks as well. And instead of procrastinating, if you can manage your time, I don’t see any reason to not take breaks.

There are a lot of methods to do this. But according to researchers, after working around 50 minutes, you should take a 15 minutes break. As a beginning point, you can start with this. After you feel like you find your schedule, you can go for it.

Give it a try. When you take mental breaks, you will see the positive effect of it on your productivity.

6-Talk About Your Goals With Others

If you want to stop procrastinating and start working on your goals, you should keep yourself accountable for your plans. And the best way to do that is to talk about your goals with your friends, colleagues, family, etc.

By doing this, you will feel more responsible. Even more! You will feel under pressure.  And you know what? The pressure you are seeing from your environment works. Because, when they ask you about your status on the project, instead of feeling bored, you are being more motivated.

7-Get Rid Of Distractions

I couldn’t be sure if I need to write this or not. It is so obvious that you need to get rid of distractions to avoid procrastination. And you have to be certain of that. Because, once you fall into the trap of distractions, it is hard to move away from them.

For example, social media. We all fall in love with Snapchat or Instagram. I don’t know why, but we want to see what others are doing. Even worse, we can lose hours by checking our Instagram account without any aim. How wasteful! So, shut your phone all the way off and don’t open it until you finish your tasks.

This was a list of steps to stop procrastinating. These are what hard workers actually do. There are plenty of methods that you can use when it comes to avoid procrastination and get things done. If you have tried one of them before, just share with us your experiences to support others in this adventure!
