1-The End of Procrastination by Peter Ludwig & Adele Schicker
I put this one at the top because it is my favorite and I recommend everyone to read it. It is written in a very simple and brief way with a lot of diagrams and pictures that allow you to grasp the idea easily and learn the best techniques to stop procrastinating.
This procrastination book has four chapters:
- The first one explains to you what is procrastination and why we procrastinate. According to the author, procrastination is not pure laziness. It stems from a lack of motivation, discipline, clear vision, and purpose. It covers crucial areas, such as how we are living in a world that is overloaded with information and how many choices and information are paralyzing us instead of motivating us. Thus we lose sight of where we are going and what we really want.
- This chapter covers how you can find your motivation and sustain it. It focuses on how you can define your purpose in life and work, and how this plays a huge role in stopping procrastination as the more you have a vision and purpose the more motivated you will be.
- This chapter starts by teaching you techniques to strengthen your willpower. Also, it provides you with great practical methods to shift your bad habits to good ones.
- The last chapter explains how you can embrace failure and use it to your advantage along with building resilience.
2-Eat That Frog! by Brian Tracy
This is my second top procrastination book.
The book has 21 chapters each of them will walk you through building success habits and overcoming procrastination. It involves actionable exercises and tips that will raise your curiosity to try them immediately.
The books start with telling you how and why you should plan your day in advance, write down your goals and day to day tasks, even how you can practice creative procrastination to finally how you increase your focus and motivation and guide you through ways to break each of your tasks to small steps.
It is an amazing guide to learn the art of doing more things done. I personally applied the techniques written in it and even that some days I am tempted to stall, I still find my way to get things done because of the habits I built while reading this book.
3-The Now Habit by Neil Fiore
This procrastination book goes back to 1998, and it is a must-read book if you want to maximize your productivity.
Its genius approach will change your whole perspective about avoiding procrastination and productivity. It shows you the main reasons behind we procrastinate. Reasons like perfectionism and fear of failure. Additionally, it explains how important it is to change the language we use for our to-do list.
For example, whenever we say “I have, I must” our minds digest the tasks as horrific ones. Whereas if we put them in a context like “I want, I will” our approach and energy to do them become absolutely different.
Another thing that I bet everyone who read the book liked and resonated with, is how the author emphasized our need to take rest. And instead of avoiding distractions or sacrificing good playtime for the sake of working usually makes you end up not having fun and not working as well. He explains how we need to make time for fun and not consider it as a secondary thing.
No words are enough to summarize this book, I highly recommend you to read it.
4-Stop Procrastinating by Nils Salzgeber
This one is arguably the best book ever written about procrastination.
The great thing is that the author of it himself is a major procrastinator. So not only he is aware of your struggle, but also he will assist you with ways to hack your procrastination habits, methods that he tried and improved his personal development and performance.
The book will take you on a journey to understand how your emotions and level of awareness determine your ability to overcome this nasty habit. Then he moves on to explain to you that you can develop and strengthen your willpower to build habits that help you become more disciplined.
As I said the author himself is a procrastinator, and as he is aware of all the details of this habit. He chose to keep his book short and direct because you know you can’t give a procrastinator a 500 pages book about avoiding procrastination and expect them to read it!
I genuinely recommend you to start with this one as it will gain you a lot of advantages in terms of overcoming procrastination.
5-Procrastinate on Purpose by Rory Vaden
Procrastinate on purpose is a book that introduces a new time management strategy. When most strategies tell us to focus on urgent and important things, like when a task must be done and how much it is important.
Vaden suggests you focus on tasks that can significantly affect your future. He introduces strategies that make you multiply your time and get more things done.
Also, he raises your attention to the fact that you should avoid getting some tasks done as soon as possible as the situation might change and the whole task gets canceled when you already have spent enough amount of time on it.
It is a great book to learn new techniques and overcome procrastination.
6-The More You Do The Better You Feel by David Parker
This book can cure your procrastination. With addressing very simple techniques, such as writing down one task then crossing it off. No matter how simple or ridiculous it seems, it has a huge effect on all procrastinators out there.
Also, it didn’t slip the fact of how easy for procrastinators to bounce to their nasty habit of procrastination. But he teaches you how to keep beating this habit even if you fall back into its trap.
